Mazahir Salih is the executive director and co-founder of the Immigrant Welcome Network of Johnson County (IWNJC). Before her role with IWNJC, Mazahir was the co-founder and former Executive Director of the Center for Worker Justice bringing over 20 years of advocacy experience to her role as Executive Director. Mazahir’s transformative leadership has made her the first Sudanese American to be elected to office in the US, the first Black woman, the first immigrant, and the first Muslim to be elected to the Iowa City Council, breaking barriers and inspiring countless immigrants and refugees. She currently serves as a council member and the Mayor Pro Tem of Iowa City.
