Aimerance Nzinga is a community leader, immigrant advocate, and longtime resident of Johnson County originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Drawing on her own experience navigating life in a new country, she is deeply committed to supporting immigrant and refugee families as they build stability, opportunity, and a sense of belonging in their communities.
Aimerance has extensive experience assisting immigrant families with housing, community navigation, language access, and informal transitional support. She is also a skilled multilingual interpreter and translator who has worked with the Iowa City Community School District, helping bridge communication gaps between schools and families and promoting greater understanding and inclusion.
As Board Secretary, Aimerance brings valuable lived experience, cultural knowledge, leadership, and strong connections to immigrant communities. Her expertise in language access, community engagement, and family support helps ensure that the voices and experiences of immigrant and low-income community members are reflected in the organization's leadership and decision-making. She is committed to advancing IWNJC's mission of developing community leaders, building collective power, and creating equitable opportunities for newcomers and other historically marginalized residents.
